A ‘Too Short’ Weekend – Update

What a crazy weekend. Well I guess they all are! I don’t have that many photo updates of orders. We did a lot of prep work for some orders we just started on. It was a lot of cutting fabric this past weekend.

Here are a few things we did get to and got photos of. The first I shared last week but the Bride bouquet had a major revision. I changed the buttons from fall shades to all ivory. I am really liking how this turned out. I liked the other but this one is much better and I think the bride will like it even more. The original bouquet is listed in the shop for sale as it was just easier to redo the bouquet than try and re-assemble.

It is a very classic look. The shades of cream and ivory are so beautiful!

There are also a lot of vintage buttons to give it that extra little touch.

So much fabric was cut out this weekend and in so many colors. I have turquoise, pink, silver, ivory, red, black, gold and even some leopard print. The only piece I got a photo of was some ivory/white/champagne organza stems. These are for a lovely bride in Australia. Hopefully the finished photos will be up on the blog next Monday.

The last photo is just a small look into a great local order we finished up. I love love love these. The couple these are for are so much fun. Can’t wait to see all of the other elements in their big day! It will be a blast for sure.

Yeah, that’s right. Legos. And that is only the start of the awesome-ness!

(**Blog Post was up by 11:30pm, that still counts for a Monday post, right! lol Good night all!)

Weekend Update: Hello August!

With a full week of August here and gone I still can’t believe it! The temperature outside definitely is a reminder though. The studio gets super hot as it is the furthest room from the main A/C unit. So on really hot weekends, we have the portable A/C working at full speed as well.

At the beginning of the weekend we finished up this red and aqua order. The bride had her portraits taken this last weekend so we wanted to make sure she had them for that. The last of the order was shipped out today! It was a great set to work on and a first for this fun color combination.

It was a fun mix of boutonnieres. Some made out of all buttons and then the corsages were felt for the mothers and the grandmothers.

This is a button order I am currently working on. It is a mix of Horizon (royal) blue, Lapis (dark) purple, Yellow and just hints of white. There will be a lot more updates on this order as time goes by. Each piece has a different combination of the three colors.

This bouquet is not a design I usually do. However, it was a special request from a bride. It is a mix of fall colors: brown, orange, purple and green. I also included some flower buttons, tons of vintage buttons and all shapes and sizes.

Here are a few other pieces of the same order as the bouquet above. The bouquet on the left is the Jr. Bridesmaid and then the other two are flower girl bouquets.

These next few photos are just teasers! These stems will show up again in the next few weeks. They got shipped off today to the Chicago area. Keep an eye out for the update. In the mean time, look at the pretty stems. This first set is bright and bold. I used a lot of fun colors and then some sparkle. There are three felt stems as well.

This second set, thing vintage and romantic. I love this set so much! Whenever I have some spare time I am making a full bouquet to match these colors. The stems are jam-packed with vintage buttons. In fact, almost every button is vintage or vintage inspired.

There are also some rhinestone buttons that I hand set all of the stones. There is a crystal (clear) and a light pink color. We use these buttons all the time to add some bling and I think they fit perfectly with this mix.

It may be overkill with three photos of the same arrangement..but I actually took close to 15 photos of it. I was almost sad to ship it off this morning!

A Real RBK Wedding – Colleen and Desmond O’Connor

Welcome to another installment of “A Real RBK Wedding”! This week I will be featuring the wedding of Colleen and Desmond. I really enjoyed working with Colleen on her bouquets. She gave me a list of colors and an overall beachy theme to go with and the end result was truly beautiful. I love when I get a challenge and it turns out the way this did. I asked Colleen a few questions about her wedding and here is what went into planning her big day.

Colleen and Desmond got married on July 10th of this year at Hermosa Beach, California. The overall theme of the wedding was “love birds”. The bridesmaid and maid of honor wore a dark truffle brown while the bride was in ivory. The colors we included in her bouquets were purple, blue, light green and ivory. I also added in some sea shells, sea horses, dolphins and turtles. There are also some ivory daisies mixed in. In the end, it was a lovely mix of colors, shapes, critters and memories!

Can you find the irish? In honor of her Irish groom, we hid a shamrock button into her bouquet. Do you see it? She asked us to hide it so they can look for it on the wedding day. I thought that was a very cool way to incorporate their personality and heritage into the flowers. Colleen and Desmond met at an Irish Pub which I thought was another great reason to include the shamrock! Colleen said, “At the end of the night, he kissed my neck and I knew then I was falling for him. 8 years and with 20 month old twin sons, we finally tied the knot. About time!”

When I asked Colleen what her favorite part of planning her wedding was she said it was shopping on Etsy! She enjoyed finding favors, gifts and of course discovering button bouquets. I have to agree with her, Etsy is an awesome resource! What a great place for brides to find unique items for their wedding!

The items we created for Colleen and Desmond were: The Bride Bouquet, Maid of Honor bouquet, Bridesmaid Bouquet, two little flower girl bouquets and some wine charms. The flower girl bouquets were smaller than we usually make but how cute are those two girls with their bouquets!?! The size worked for their age and also with the daisies mixed in, they helped make it look more full.

Thank you both for sending your story and the pictures! And for allowing us to be a part of your big day. It was an honor to create the bouquets for you. They definitely rank high up on my favorite color/design combinations! We wish you both the best as you continue your lives together!

We have great things on our schedule for this weekend! Think legos, purple, satin, leopard, blue and yellow. The weekend update post on Monday should be very colorful! Hopefully next week will be a little better on the blog schedule as well. The day job (Ariela speaking) has been very hectic and stressful. I used to do the blog during my lunch break but this past week I haven’t had that time! Hopefully everyone has a great weekend! If you are in texas, stay cool as it is going to be over 100 each day!

Here are some other vendors that help make Colleen and Desmond’s Big day possible!

Weekend Update: July 30 – Aug 1

It was another crazy busy weekend here at RBK Creations. We are cranking out orders as fast as our little fingers can go! Here are a few things that we worked on this weekend. I don’t have as many photos as a lot of the orders are in the starting phase!

We are so close to finishing up our Red/Aqua and White Felt order. I really love the feel of this bouquet! This is the first time we have done this color combination but it is a lot of fun! It is a nice change from the common colors we work with!

The bridesmaid bouquets are being put together right now. I should have a full order photo next week to show these beauties off.

The next item I got done this weekend was a little flower girl bouquet. The Pretty in Pink bouquet has been very popular in the shop. I have made it numerous times but love it each time. This is a smaller size since the little flower girl is only 10 months old.

I have had this next bouquet in the shop for some time. It recently sold and then the bride wanted 11 matching boutonnieres to go with the bouquet. I also changed up the ribbon to a grey/silver color to help tie it all in to her other decorations. Her wedding is this weekend!

And the last item I got finished up was the super fun felt order I talked about last week. I made 3 felt pomanders and 5 strands of felt flower garland. It will be used for an engagement photo shoot here in about two weeks. I really love the colors. Very subtle but vintage and romantic.

New Headbands Now Available

I have been somewhat keeping to my blog schedule! The only thing I am stuggling with would be Wednesday posts. I don’t know if it is because I get busy on Wednesday or I just don’t ever have a solid thing to talk about. Maybe both? I will get working on that. No promises though!

Today I would like to show you a little something I have been working on in between some orders. These are the types of things I get done during the morning/afternoon. These things are easy enough for me to work on while at the day job while I answer the phone. New items are also created all the time for custom orders. If the new item I make for an order turns out really well or fits in with the other items in the shop I list it in the shop. I feel the store is evolving all the time.

This new item is a sweet little headband. This is an adult size but can be done in a wide range of sizes since they are all custom made.

As you can see…it is modeled by the creepy styrofoam head Lucinda. Her drawn on makeup just adds to the creepy levels.

The headband has three hand made satin flowers. This is the same flower style as the carnation bouquet in the shop. They are able to spread open a little bit more on the headband so they don’t look as much like a carnation. For the first headband I used two medium pink flowers and one turquoise with white polka dots flower. The headband itself is a grey zig zag stretchable knit ribbon. There is also an elastic band to make sure it fits well!

The headband is designed to sit more toward the left side but can be created in the middle/the left /the right. More or less flowers can be used as well but I thought three was just the right number.

I have a whole bunch of fun fabric ribbon including some that are crocheted! I also plan on creating these with a wide variety of fabrics and colors for the flowers. Keep an eye out for these in the shop. I hope to get them up this weekend!

In other news…I can’t believe tomorrow is already Friday!!
