I absolutely love this wedding that I have to show you today. This post is a little delayed but I have had the hardest time picking the photos to share with you. We worked with the bride to create a lot of items for their beach wedding. And I loved that in almost every photo there was some type of button element. A few of the elements were even new to us. It was completely customized.

Even with picking just a few, this will be a very picture heavy post. I spoke with Holly, the bride, and she explains some of the different things that went in to planning her perfect wedding!

Holly and Charles’ wedding was in sunny Key West at the Key West Beachside Marriott in early June. The wedding took place around sunset. They were able to get some great photos before the ceremony took place. All photos were taken by J. Hunter Photography.

I worked with Holly for about 2 months. I got to know her pretty well as we created the different pieces for her big day. It was great to work closely on each element. I was able to get a sense of her personality and the overall feel she wanted. This photo above really shows how much fun the whole group was!

When I asked Holly to explain the overall feel/theme of her wedding, this is what she had to say, “It seemed very hard at first to find a central theme, so finally I just started thinking of my favorite things, trying to think tropical. I have always loved sea turtles. I came to find out that baby sea turtles meant ‘new beginning’, which was perfect for us. The colors were a mix of tropical colors: blues, greens and ivory. We really just wanted a relaxed destination beach wedding!”

In this photo you can see the pomanders on the chairs. I loved making these. They were a labor of love! It was a great way to incorporate the colors of the wedding while keeping it flowing and light. I also asked Holly what her favorite part of planning her wedding. She was kind enough to say, “My favorite part was waiting to see how all the different decorations/flowers turned out for our wedding. I was always getting pictures from Ariela, even at midnight!” What can I say, we work pretty late at night here at RBK Creations! It always seems like I get to emailing/updating customers around midnight or later, especially on weekends.

Some of the items we provided for Holly and Charles are: The Bride had a button bouquet with custom buttons. I think the name we ended up for the bouquet was the Sea Daisy! The groom had a matching button boutonniere. The Matron of Honor and the Best Man had organza pieces. She let her Matron of Honor pick and that is what she went with. It was truly a mixture of the types of pieces we create here at RBK Creations. The bridesmaid bouquets were felt, as were the groomsmen boutonnieres. Each bridesmaid also received a few pins for clutches and fun, flow-y organza hair clips. The parents and grandparents also had matching pieces! The organza pomanders I mentioned above were a lot of fun. They turned out to be huge but it ended up lining the aisle pretty well! There were baby versions on the arch as well.

The tables at the reception had either a button bouquet, felt bouquet or an organza bouquet. There were also buttons scattered as an extra pop of color (as seen above). I made a couple of wine charms for the wine drinkers, also seen above. Each guest was given a little embroidered felt magnet. A lot of the items from the ceremony were reused for the reception! Multi-purpose items are great. Each item also had a great mix of buttons including shells, turtles, dolphins, and so on!

“My favorite item would have to be my bridal bouquet, the head table arrangements were a close second though!” The head table arrangements were a mix of buttons, felt and organza poof stems. They were a lot of fun!

Part of what I was able to learn while working with Holly is how she met Charles. “We are both air traffic controllers, and have really messed up schedules! Out of 300 controllers, in five years we never talked until we had the same schedule last year. (Of Wednesday and Thursday off, with Tuesday being a midnight shift.) His first text message to me was, ‘I have a PB&J and a Ham & Cheese, what should I eat” (This was at 3am!!). and I said, “Depends on what you have to drink…” and well, the rest is history.” How cute is that!

I always like to hear how brides find RBK Creations. It is fun to hear the different ways plus it helps me plan different ways to reach customers! For Holly, she was just searching the Internet and came across out site. “I was searching for ‘blue wedding flowers’ on the Internet. I came across a million different things! Most were very expensive. I was thinking fresh flowers, and then I found some DIY stuff at JoAnns and was so excited! Silk flowers were the way to go. I spent HOURS looking, trying to make the flowers come together…and I just couldn’t do it. It was too hard to match, find enough of the same flowers…UGH! It was so frustrating. Finally, I found some photos of a button bouquet online and a link to RBK Creations. I remember emailing Ariela and Brenda…so late and so excited, hoping they had an open slot! AND THEY DID! And the price was so very appropriate, and I believe their work is completely priceless. I can’t beging to tell everyone how perfect these flowers are. They last forever, create conversation and are absolutely gorgeous.”

The flower girl was Holly’s adorable little girl. We made her a flower ribbon wand and customized a little basket for her. We included some shells and daisies for her to toss as she walked down the aisle. Holly shared the cutest story. She walked down the aisle, all smiles, but would not toss the shells and flowers because she wanted to keep them all. Kids can be so funny!

Told you it would be a lot of photos! And it is only half of what I uploaded. I thought 10 was enough for this post anyway! The photos will be in a photo set on Facebook here in the next few weeks for your viewing!

Holly, Thank you so much for being such a joy to work with. You made our job very easy! It was fun chatting about all of the different elements in your wedding and helping you pick out things like vases and clutches. I really hope we can keep in touch! We also wish you, Charles and little Norah the best!

JHunter Photography, Thank you for taking such great photos! The colors just pop! You were able to capture everything so well!

Key West Beachside Marriott, what an amazing venue! A perfect location for the bride looking for a relaxed, tropical feel!

Thank you all for looking!

Welcome to another installment of “A Real RBK Wedding”! This week I will be featuring the wedding of Colleen and Desmond. I really enjoyed working with Colleen on her bouquets. She gave me a list of colors and an overall beachy theme to go with and the end result was truly beautiful. I love when I get a challenge and it turns out the way this did. I asked Colleen a few questions about her wedding and here is what went into planning her big day.

Colleen and Desmond got married on July 10th of this year at Hermosa Beach, California. The overall theme of the wedding was “love birds”. The bridesmaid and maid of honor wore a dark truffle brown while the bride was in ivory. The colors we included in her bouquets were purple, blue, light green and ivory. I also added in some sea shells, sea horses, dolphins and turtles. There are also some ivory daisies mixed in. In the end, it was a lovely mix of colors, shapes, critters and memories!

Can you find the irish? In honor of her Irish groom, we hid a shamrock button into her bouquet. Do you see it? She asked us to hide it so they can look for it on the wedding day. I thought that was a very cool way to incorporate their personality and heritage into the flowers. Colleen and Desmond met at an Irish Pub which I thought was another great reason to include the shamrock! Colleen said, “At the end of the night, he kissed my neck and I knew then I was falling for him. 8 years and with 20 month old twin sons, we finally tied the knot. About time!”

When I asked Colleen what her favorite part of planning her wedding was she said it was shopping on Etsy! She enjoyed finding favors, gifts and of course discovering button bouquets. I have to agree with her, Etsy is an awesome resource! What a great place for brides to find unique items for their wedding!

The items we created for Colleen and Desmond were: The Bride Bouquet, Maid of Honor bouquet, Bridesmaid Bouquet, two little flower girl bouquets and some wine charms. The flower girl bouquets were smaller than we usually make but how cute are those two girls with their bouquets!?! The size worked for their age and also with the daisies mixed in, they helped make it look more full.

Thank you both for sending your story and the pictures! And for allowing us to be a part of your big day. It was an honor to create the bouquets for you. They definitely rank high up on my favorite color/design combinations! We wish you both the best as you continue your lives together!

We have great things on our schedule for this weekend! Think legos, purple, satin, leopard, blue and yellow. The weekend update post on Monday should be very colorful! Hopefully next week will be a little better on the blog schedule as well. The day job (Ariela speaking) has been very hectic and stressful. I used to do the blog during my lunch break but this past week I haven’t had that time! Hopefully everyone has a great weekend! If you are in texas, stay cool as it is going to be over 100 each day!

Here are some other vendors that help make Colleen and Desmond’s Big day possible!
Reception Location: Sangria Restaurant in Hermosa Beach, CA

Last month I featured the wedding of Emma and Brandon. It was great to be able to showcase their wedding, the photographer and the happy couple. As I receive photos and stories from past brides, these posts will continue! My favorite part of the whole process is seeing that the bride (and the family and friends) are happy with what we created. That means the most!

This next bride had so many personal touches added to her bouquet. I was so happy to see the photos from her big day. The smile on her face, made me smile. Kelda and Callum met on MySpace, but actually realized that they had a few friends in common! The only lived nine miles apart and had never met until then. They are also in the same field of work. It is crazy how the world works sometimes!

Read on as Kelda explains her 12-28-09 wedding and what went in to planning it.

What was the theme of your wedding? What colors did you use/what was the overall feel of the big day?

“There wasn’t really a theme – We’re not as ‘theme-y’ in Scotland as you are in the United States, but quirky probably sums it up. It was winter time, which most people don’t go for. The Bridesmaid Dresses were a crisp wintery navy blue colour too. We had the button bouquets. We had a humanist wedding (and basically wrote the whole service so it was quite fun and laid back.

I play in a brass band and have done so since I was a kid. So we had my brass band play Christmas carols as the guests arrived. Then while I walked down the aisle, they played a Scottish song, Caledonia. While we signed the register they played another tune about a cat (we have a pet cat!) and on our way out, they played the James Bond Theme.

Because we got engaged at the Taj Mahal, our table names were Bollywood film names (all love stories!)

Our daytime favours, only for the females, were wooden Christmas tree baubles with the date of our wedding on them. And we had a roulette table at the evening reception, rather than favours.”

What was the location of your wedding?

“Snowy Scotland! We got married at the Burnhouse Manor Hotel in Ayrshire, Scotland on a gorgeous winter, snowy day.”

What was your favorite part of planning the wedding?

“Do you know, I can’t pick anything in particular, but the bouquets were definitely up there with planning the ceremony, and picking the brass band tunes, and Bollywood table names and deciding to have the roulette table! These little things I found more fun than picking the dress and the venue I’d say!”

What types of items did you receive from RBK Creations? What was your favorite piece?

“We had my bouquet, 4 Bridesmaid Bouquets and 2 Flower Girl Bouquets

I loved my bouquet because you added in lace leaves from my Gran’s wedding dress veil and buttons and cufflinks that were my grandpa’s (both who have passed away) into my bouquet!

I loved the flower girl bouquets because you added in little snowmen buttons.

Also, you had colour matched everything to the dress and the tartan which was brilliant.” (The colors we used were: Blue, green, yellow, orange, purple and ivory/whites. The bouquets were a fun mix of colors. The tartan was very inspiring.)

How did you come across RBK Creations?

“I think I had seen the idea of button bouquets or material bouquets on Offbeat Bride. When I googled it, your Flickr page came up. From there, I found your Etsy Page and I fell in love with your stuff!”

I love getting photos from the Bride and Groom after their big day! I have been asked by a lot of people to see photos from the orange and pink wedding. We did a fun mix of satin, tulle and felt for the bouquets and decor.

I am excited to show you the photos from Emma and Brandon’s early June wedding. The orange and pink was a great accent for their outdoor wedding in Washington state. (This post is VERY picture heavy!)

The photographer for this wedding was Wilton Photography, a husband and wife team (Travis and Cari) that specializes in wedding, portrait, and commercial photography. You can also head on over to their blog and their Facebook fan page. They do some amazing work and definitely worth taking a look.

I just love the reflection in the pool, the color of the sky and how awesome this couple is.

The Girls. I love the orange and pink dresses. How cute are the flower girls?!? It looks like the weather was perfect for their day.

The bride and groom were just adorable. They look so happy. We were so honored to be a part of their wedding.

Check out that Bow Tie. That was handmade by aBeachBreeze. It fit in so well with the rest of the items!

I just adore how this turned out. I love the pomanders lining the aisle.

Here are some detail photos of the pomanders.

There were some button stems mixed in with fresh flowers. A nice, whimsical touch.

On the left is one of the magnets we made for favors. On the right, the pomanders were also used for the cocktail hour centerpieces. I love that they were able to have multi uses throughout the day.

Close up shot of the brides bouquet. The blue feathers added to her “Something Blue” and a shot of the grooms boutonniere. I love the little leaf accent!

And lastly, here is another photo of the adorable couple. We wish you both the best!

It was so much fun working with this couple. I will be posting more vendor information for this wedding shortly. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message through the “Contact Us” page.
